The meaning of Ashtanga is "eight limbs" in Sanskrit, and refers to the eight limbs of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Ashtanga Yoga was taken from a very ancient text called the Yoga Korunta. The
Yoga Korunta described an exclusive system of Hatha Yoga developed by Vamana Rishi.
